A psychological evaluation typically includes 4 components:
- Clinical Interview: This usually occurs over a 1- to 1-1/2-hour period during which time Dr. Jalazo speaks with the evaluee in a private office setting (or via Telehealth). She will ask about developmental history, medical, and mental health histories, current symptoms, and functional impairments.
- Psychological Testing: Following her clinical interview, Dr. Jalazo will then select the appropriate objective psychological tests to administer in order to answer the referral question and to address any behavioral health symptoms. Psychological testing can take 1 to 3 hours, depending on the extent of evaluations necessary.
- Collateral Interviews: In some cases, it is important to speak with loved ones (family, spouse, significant other) or in the case of an employment fitness for duty evaluation, supervisors and/or co-workers.
- Medical Records Review: For persons with preexisting behavioral health symptoms and/or treatment (psychological, emotional, cognitive), Dr. Jalazo will review medical records from psychotherapists, physicians, inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations, or other pertinent medical records.
- Written Narrative Psychological Evaluation: Within 3 days following the evaluee’s psychological interview and testing, Dr. Jalazo will provide the appropriate party with a comprehensive narrative report and/or completed immigration form that includes her mental status observations, the evaluee’s self-reported history, psychological testing outcomes, diagnoses, and professional opinions as warranted.
